Fashion, Fun & Fierce Competition: About You Takes on Urban Challenger

Hamburg-based fashion e-commerce company About You kicked off their Christmas party with an Urban Challenger game led by a remote Game Host. Teams dashed through the city's historic Speicherstadt, accompanied by their office dogs—including the aptly named "Paw-some Hustlers" team. The competition was fierce, with multiple teams scoring above 90 points and "The Winners" reaching an impressive 112 points, just shy of Hamburg's record.

Team day. City rally Mannheim. Started at Paradeplatz. Studied the grid system: streets with letters instead of names. Unique in Germany. Found Mannheimer Dreck at a bakery. Sounds bad. Tastes good. Struck a baroque pose in front of the Palace. Palace is bigger than expected. Almost as big as Versailles, says the sign. At the water tower Silly Walk. A kid joined in. For the inventor challenge found three inventions: Draisine, automobile, tractor. 92 points. Ovtduf. Don't ask.

Onboarding, scavenger hunt Mannheim, and I have to say right away the grid system WRECKED us, so the streets here are called Q1, R3, and we got lost three times because who's supposed to remember that?! But THEN the Mannheimer Dreck at the bakery, this pastry with the terrible name, and it was SO GOOD that Jan grabbed another one for the road. In front of the Baroque Palace we threw ourselves into baroque poses, looked like a bad painting, tourists clapped anyway. For the inventor challenge NOBODY knew the bicycle was invented in Mannheim! 69 points and three new people who now know what Mannheimer Dreck is.

Mannheim in autumn has that warm light that makes the sandstone facades of the Baroque Palace glow. The city rally as a team building workshop led us through the Quadrate, where streets carry letters instead of names, as if someone had designed the city on graph paper. At the water tower we stood and saw Art Nouveau in every detail. We found the Mannheimer Dreck at a small bakery, and the first bite was like a surprise that tastes of cinnamon and chocolate. For the inventor challenge we learned that the bicycle and the car were both born here, two inventions that changed the world, from this city of squares. 65 points, but what remains is the image of sunlight on the Palace and the taste of something unexpected.

We're called the winners, well actually "Team 1, the winners", which is pretty confident for a team that ended with 68 points, but that's going too far now. The city rally through Mannheim was our team day and it started at Paradeplatz, and I have to say, this grid system with letters and numbers instead of street names confused us at first. Then the Mannheimer Dreck, this pastry, and Lisa ate three because they were so good, even though we really needed to move on. In front of the Baroque Palace then the pose challenge, although baroque poses in sneakers look a bit odd. At the water tower for the final team photo. 68 points and the name almost came true.

Okay, 2. Wahl (second choice) as a team name sounds modest, but you know what, on the scavenger hunt through Mannheim we were FIRST choice! Started at Paradeplatz and right away the grid challenge, so the streets here aren't named after people but after letters and numbers, Q1, R3 and so on, and we had to figure out which letters are missing, and Tim searched for SO long! Then the Mannheimer Dreck at the bakery, sounds terrible, tastes FANTASTIC, gingerbread with chocolate! In front of the Baroque Palace we struck baroque poses and tourists took photos. At the water tower then the final photo. 67 points and the best team day we've ever had!
