Pilgrimage Sites
In the year 1164, the bones of the Three Wise Men were brought from Italy to Cologne as a conquered relic from one of Barbarossa's campaigns. As a result, Cologne became a pilgrimage site and grew into a large city.
To explore Cologne's pilgrimage history, visit the Dreikönigenpförtchen, through which, according to legend, the bones of the Three Wise Men were brought into the city. Another pilgrimage site is the Black Madonna in the St. Maria in der Kupfergasse church. When visiting this place, enter with a contemplative attitude.
